My artistic expressions are visual love songs for our planet.

I feel the beauty all around me but I also grieve our changing planet and the loss of loved ones. I share with you my evolving visual love songs...

FOOD FOR THE SOUL... That’s the sense I have when I create watercolors en plein air...

I love to evoke the delicious essence of a place. I am excited and challenged and at peace all at the same time. Landscapes are my favorite subject, in particular those of New Mexico, Tuscany, Provence and New England.
As I create, I am inviting the viewer into my painting. Breezes on my face, the sounds of a gurgling brook and chirping birds, the scent of lavender fields or the smells of food wafting through the village square, seeing the grey-greens of an ancient cathedral or a rust-colored adobe thrill me! There are also challenges with painting outside, like when the winds are gusty and the sun is hot and you’re trying to keep your easel from blowing over. In those paintings you’ll discover an intensity of brushstroke movement. My technique has evolved with applications of loose, vibrant color using large brushes with an abundance of paint as well as the intimate mark-making of a tiny brush. Some details are accomplished by scratching through the rich layers for unexpected depth. With my past drawing and calligraphy experience, I delight in applying a few lyrical marks of charcoal, pen and graphite lines to add a lyrical sparkle.
